New Castle's Great Island Common is a lovely 32-acre public park that includes a beach, large grassy area, and a playground.
Open from 9 am - 9 pm every day year-round, the Great Island Common is a carry-in/carry-out park. There is a small admission fee for non-New Castle residents.
Dogs are prohibited from May 15th through September 15th; leashed dogs are permitted the rest of the year.

Jenness State Beach is a great family location with an Atlantic oceanfront setting - its sandy beach is ideal for swimming and picnicking.
Amenities at the beach include a bathhouse. Metered parking is available for 67 cars. Parking meters are located along Route 1A and accept quarters.

The Jenny Thompson Outdoor Pool is a 50-meter competition pool located at 110 Portland Avenue, next to the Dover Ice Arena.
The pool is mainly used for competitive and recreational swimming as well as occasional lessons during the summer. There is also a large grassy area for kids to play on, and the pool can be rented out for private parties.

Kingston State Park, on the shores of Great Pond, is 14 miles from the New Hampshire seacoast and is close to many area attractions, such as Canobie Lake Park, The Fox Run Mall, various antique shops, and fine restaurants.
