New Castle's Great Island Common is a lovely 32-acre public park that includes a beach, large grassy area, and a playground.
Open from 9 am - 9 pm every day year-round, the Great Island Common is a carry-in/carry-out park. There is a small admission fee for non-New Castle residents.
Dogs are prohibited from May 15th through September 15th; leashed dogs are permitted the rest of the year.

There are three sandy beaches in York, ME, all within easy walking distance of numerous shops and restaurants (listed from south to north):

Hampton Beach State Park provides year-round recreation, with Atlantic oceanfront facilities situated along miles of sandy beach. Activities in the park include swimming, fishing, picnicking, and RV camping with full hook-ups in the campground.

Kingston State Park, on the shores of Great Pond, is 14 miles from the New Hampshire seacoast and is close to many area attractions, such as Canobie Lake Park, The Fox Run Mall, various antique shops, and fine restaurants.
The park is 44 acres in size and includes fireplaces and picnic areas, a playground, softball field, and three game areas for horseshoes and volleyball. Canoe rentals are also available.
