My folks and I took the kids (ages 4 and almost 2) to Story Land yesterday and had a great time.

As the name suggests, the park is themed around classic stories and nursery rhymes. While there is a new, somewhat fast-looking roller coaster to amuse the older set, the park is really geared towards younger children.

There are lots of play areas and gentle rides for the little guys, as well as shops and food options scattered throughout the park. There's also a little train ride that takes you around the whole park, handy as both means of transport and attraction in itself.

Everything is very clearly labeled in terms of how tall kids must be to participate in a given attraction, both solo and with an adult caregiver.

For my 4-year-old daughter, the two highlights of the day were the carousel and meeting Cinderella in her castle (complete with pumpkin carriage ride up the hill).

Story Land is about two hours from downtown Portsmouth, straight up Rt. 16. When planning your trip, anticipate that you will inevitably get slowed down somewhat in North Conway, which you have to drive straight through and which is always crowded during the peak summer season....more
