The Portsmouth City Council passed an ordinance creating a public library back in 1881, and the city has had a library ever since. It moved to its current location - an airy, environmentally friendly building - in 2006.
The library offers many programs for children and teens, as well as computer classes, games and puzzles, and movie screenings. Teens have a dedicated room of their own in a corner of the children's section, too.
Deals & steals alert! The library provides passes for free or discounted admission to many area museums in NH, ME, and MA. Stop by or call the reference department at (603) 766-1720 for info.
